Shakespearian Live Lounge
Living next door to an award winning Artz Centre has many big advantages for us. Not only do we get to meet lots of likeminded people with a passion for the arts but we get unrivalled access to their creative minds and performing talent too.
The idea of sitting in comfort, drinking great coffee and listening to live music or spoken word poetry has a bit of win, win, win feel to it; and that is certainly a theme that will become traditional at Shakespeare’s.
Just before COVID-19 gripped the nation we had planned a low key intimate gig in the space, to try to understand some of the logistical challenges we may face in the future. We weren’t anticipating a 12 month national lockdown would be one of them. However we proceeded with the gig, inviting only the musicians and their instruments; as restrictions where being put in place to prevent social mixing.
The new plan was to film their performances and send them out to provide some much needed inspiration at a difficult time for everyone.
Despite the eerie lack of atmosphere and unfortunate lack of spectators these talented musicians soldiered on and quite brilliantly provided the soundtrack to an emotional evening of entertainment. Not only had they displayed their talent as artists but they had demonstrated just how much the sound of live music would enhance the ambience of this already atmospheric space.
Thank you to James Elwood, James Jackson, Steph Woods and everyone at The Artz Centre. We cannot wait for the next Shakespearian Live Lounge, when our customers can sample it for themselves.
In the mean time: Check out some of their live performances here.
